the devil will find work for idle hands to do.

In chicago i found this really amazing used book store and was able to get 'The smiths and beyond' a really great photography book from england. Since i have nothing better to do, i scanned in some of my favourite images.

Nobody warned you.

I don't really feel it necessary to make a post about all the things i acquired over christmas-only that i'm very thankful for everything i received and that so many people were thinking about me. Having said that, i feel there are a few worth mentioning of which i'm particularly excited.

In the span of two weeks, i went from not owning a single record to this thanks to my friends. Don't worry, i'm not going to turn into one of those kids. All i need now is a record player...

And shout outs to my dad for purchasing me 13lbs of art!

It was really nice to get to see my family-despite being chased around with the lightening machine of death (you know, that horrible game that plays menacing music and shocks unsuspecting victims?) hearing my relatives talk about smoking pot and being dragged away from stomp the yard to open presents. I had a really nice talk with dad. He saw my neck tattoo and didn't seem to care much. It lead to conversations on how petty things can lead to end of a relationships and it made me feel lucky that my parents have always been very accepting of me and supportive of all my decisions thus far. New year's eve is tomorrow and i can't pretend i'm excited-i think i hate new years more than any time of the year. It's only saving grace is that everything usually seems to come out in list/countdown format which i'm particularly fond of.

And because i'm sure the huge numbers of you that read this arn't able to contain your excitement any longer, my next update will be photos from chicago.

"Well, I'm gonna get out of bed every morning... breath in and out all day long. Then, after a while I won't have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breath in and out... and, then after a while, I won't have to think about how I had it great and perfect for a while. "

Who decided to turn my christmas into a meg ryan rom-com crying fest.

Inverted Values

"These product ideas play with notions of social, personal, material, and brand values. They are not for sale; but others as insidious are in stores everywhere." by Sinclair Smith.

"Make your own: the dead-books-dead-weight-door-stop. Is the value of books on display any less if they perform a utilitarian function?"
I've always been fascinated by commodity culture and consumerism-this is wonderful. If you're into design at all, i suggest you check out his website-certainly some interesting projects.

The good life is out there somewhere.

Went to the distillery district with my thinktank class to look at some galleries. I'm aware i'm going to come across as a snob (i'm completely over people thinking that) but it always amazes me how little people know about the world around them. For those of you who arn't aware, the distillery district is a beautiful old area in the east end of toronto that was-as you may have guessed-an old distillery. The gorgeous buildings are now mostly gallery space/specialty shops. The majority of my class had never even heard of the area, let alone had been there, and i still don't think realised the signifigance it held for artists/designers. It seems like so many of the people know nothing about what they really are going to school for, or the area in which they live, and i can't determine if it's because they just have no exposure to it, or they simply don't care. To me it seems, if you're interested in it, you'll seek it out. The whole trip simply disbused me of my notions that i had at the very least one thing in common with my 'peers'. I guess it was just another example of how something managed to be ruined for me because of others.

And just as i was debating whether or not i qualify as a NMD, i came to the sad realization that i was blogging about it and had answered my own question.

too long on your trail.

Every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.

Finally, on saturday i was able to see Control. I had reasonably high expectations for this film, and i have to say it wasn't what i expected, however i did really enjoy it. It was shot beautifuly, the cinematography was amazing, and i'm not normally one who looks at that sort of thing. I loved Sam Reily, he really did seem perfect for this role (i'm sure the fact that he's really in a band doesn't hurt) but i was suprised with how much i loved Alexandra Maria Lara's (Annik) performance in this movie. I've never really been a fan of female actresses-they simply do nothing for me. For whatever reason i found her performace very endearing, though. If you're able to find a place where it's showing, i think it's certainly worth going to see.

NYC Hallowe'en Dog Parade '07

So if you know me, i'm sure you've already heard of this as i wouldn't shut up about it. It was probably the happiest moment of my life-there were over 500 dogs. And despite what some of you may think, i wasn't the only one under 80 in attendence.

Ps. Went to Magic Pony to pick up a copy of a Mike Giant book i really wanted-It has some of my favourite illustrations of his including one of my favourite buildings in toronto at dovercourt/queen st. They only got it in a few days ago, and already had only three left i believe. Look into it.

America's Next Top Model (complete with sunglasses, starbucks and cigarettes)

Sister i'm a....

This little guy was obviously Elvis-he had his own float complete with motorized discoballs and speakers playing "viva las vegas"!

Probably the best dog i've ever seen-he was E.T.!

He looked like a little bear!

I don't even think he was wearing a costume-but i wanted to steal him regardless.

I didn't care that his costume was inconsistent...he was too cute.

This guy was so well behaved considering he had a giant airplane on-he didn't seem to mind at all.

Taco!

Hannibal Lecter!

He was wearing fishnets and a bra....

I loved this little guy-his costume was so big! His owner was dressed as an exterminator.

So many boston terriers! I thought my heart was going to explode.

I wish i had a better picture of them, but they were a flock of sheep.

iPhone! This was one of my favourites.

Aligator pug.
